The tourist on holiday: Accommodation in our standard rooms, luxury rooms and luxury suites on the historic farm will remind you of days gone by. This makes the perfect base from which to explore Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest town. You will be centrally located, within a 30-minute drive of Cape Town, the towns of Paarl and Somerset West, and the beaches of Gordon’s Bay and Strand. The surrounding area offers more than 40 wineries, 10 golf courses, beaches, theatre and other entertainment, and a variety of restaurants.
The business traveller can enjoy privacy and comfort in a natural setting, while being close to Cape Town Airport and the city periphery. The extra-length beds, and both continental and hot breakfasts, are another attraction.
The Conference Centre caters for groups of up to 20 people. The garden areas create a relaxed and natural atmosphere for the centre, which hosts inspirational events throughout the year.
The health-conscious will find Onze Rust the perfect setting for relaxation and stress-relief. Wellness workshops, holistic treatments and motivational talks are held in the Conference Centre, while a variety of holistic therapies can be organised on request. Onze Rust has been the venue for meditations, spiritual dancing and healing therapies.
Overseas and local film groups can enjoy both privacy and a natural setting, with the advantage of being 20-30 minutes’ drive away from film studios. The farm itself, with historic buildings, a lush indigenous garden and small wild life, offers a range of photographic and filming possibilities.
Small garden weddings, exclusive parties and special functions receive our personal attention. We specialise in garden weddings for 50 to 60 people, which have the benefit of unique photo-shoot opportunities in the garden. Birthday parties for groups of 30 people can be arranged in the Country House or in the gardens.
Honey-mooners will find three of our luxury, double suites ideal.
A specially-designed wheelchair-friendly room is available for the physically challenged and for guests who are recouperating from an operation or illness.
Nature-lovers and bird watchers will consider Onze Rust a paradise. You will encounter squirrels in the oak trees, otters in the dams, and a variety of bird life including falcons, eagles, owls, Hadedah and water fowl on the farm.
Golfers and sporting enthusiasts will find ample golf courses and other facilities nearby for golfing, horse riding, hiking, quad biking, swimming and other sports.
Creative people including writers, poets, gardeners and photographers find Onze Rust the ideal setting to work in. It is the ideal location for workshops, courses, meetings, painting holidays and writing weekends.
Optimal time to visit
We enjoy sunny skies virtually throughout the year, although not perhaps on every day during winter. The year-round sunshine is one of the major attractions of visiting the Western Cape. The warm summer months are September through to April, when daily temperatures average between 11 and 30 degrees Celsius. This weather is relatively hot and suitable for beach visits, mountain hiking, golfing and other outdoor activities. Various extreme sports are available in the Cape Town and Stellenbosch districts as well. The peak local holiday season is in December and January, when local schools close for 6 weeks. Cape Town in the Western Cape is known for its sunshine and cultural diversity. The area has much to offer such as Robben Island, Table Mountain, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, wine lands, golf courses, white sandy beaches, mountains, hiking, entertainment, and much more.
The colder months are from May to August, when average daily temperatures are between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius. The Western Cape is a winter rainfall region, and on average 3 out of every 7 days is sunny. This time of year is ideal for romantic times by the fireside, and enjoying good company and good wine. The natural beauty of the region with its lush green fields, bluish mountains and vineyards remains unsurpassed.

An eco-friendly environment that is close to nature
The guest house uses a unique, eco-friendly sanitation system that is gentle on the environment, and water conservation is encouraged to ensure responsible use of the available supply. Onze Rust farm is blessed with its own, natural water resources. The tap water supplied in the guest rooms is safe to drink. However, we provide each room with a water filter for those who prefer filtered water.
Onze Rust is a haven for nature-lovers. Falcons, eagles, owls, Hadidah, various species of geese and wild duck form just a part of the abundance of birds and small wild life on the farm, with squirrels scurrying around the old oak trees.
This region is well known for its wine and for beautiful roses. Onze Rust’s unique setting provides views of the distant mountains, while the immediate environs of the garden with its natural and landscaped features presents white water lilies growing in abundance in winter and indigenous flora that can be seen in bloom at various times throughout the year. One of the two large dams is home to a number of Koi fish.
Throughout history, fountains and water have served as symbols of inner healing and energy. Much of the vision for the Onze Rust Guest House and Inspiration Centre was prompted by the natural fountain that flows into the dam on Onze Rust and is situated only metres away from the original old Victorian House. The fountain must have served as the main water supply of the first families who settled in this district in the early 1700s.
